A Hazy Day at Star

Sunday was a quick trip out to Star Island – a Dirty Dancing style retreat center built on the largest of the Isle of Shoals, which in the past served as a settlement for a small fishing village, and these days serves as an destination for an extended Howe family getaway. We had initially planned on a long weekend there, and then a long day, but when it came down to, it Nora started to get a cold and we managed only to get the late morning ferry out and the early evening ferry back. Vacation days should be more commonplace, and illnesses less so.

It was a beautiful ride out to the island, though, and an even more beautiful one back – we were even lucky enough catch sight of a few whales on the return. So a shorter trip than we’d planned, but a lovely day to see family and roam a little island for an afternoon.
